i actually had this conversation today
This sums the double standard perfectly, I find it incredibly frustrating when an entire demographic is treated like extra terrestrial when it comes to being fans of things like Video Games, Comics and SciFi….and yet the male demographic can just waltz into a fandom that up until now has catered mostly to females in My Little Pony and expect it to cater to them.
But here is the funniest thing, for the most part the MLP fandom has been beyond welcoming to the “Brony” invasion, so why can’t Gaming, Comics and other forms of pop-culture be more accepted to the “Female” “invasion”?
Is this all some mental desire for revenge because some girl made fun of you for playing Tomb Raider in 1996 in High School? To which i say “get over it”. Why are there people here still treating gaming as this closed off “No Girl’s Allowed” club and in the same breath, want the masses to accept gaming as a legitimate form of entertainment.
But you know what, maybe I’m wrong, maybe this community is just filled with “Fake Geek Girls”….so what exactly are they doing to harm your enjoyment of gaming? Do you feel they are just trying to prank you or something? and whats stopping you for introducing them to Geek-ery and turning them into a “Real Geek Girl”.
Guys seriously, it’s time to grow up, that girl you just teased at because she can’t tell you every incarnation of Spiderman or whatever? Yeah, you have now blown a chance at forming a relationship with someone who liked the same thing as you…is that what you want?
